Last night in Hollywood I attended a listening party slash meet and greet slash producer set for the lovely Conductor Williams. While the turnout wasn’t extreme it filled the room well at Hall of Fame which was a really nice venue for this particular event. The walls are covered in LA sports photos and the backlit wall of team hats was a really nice backdrop for Conductor’s set. The entire crowd was full of trendy clothes and friendly personalities.
This was honestly such a beautiful event. It always feels so good to see a community come together and show love for one another, it’s the most wholesome thing to witness. I will say that I am new to LA, so I still feel a little lost in these spaces, but everyone is always so friendly and welcoming so I have really yet to have a bad experience. I’d like to note that Conductor may be one of THE most wholesome and genuine people I’ve met in this industry thus far. The line to meet this man was not always long in length, but it was in time. That’s because every single person who walked up to him he spent the time to get to know personally and have a real conversation with them. This wasn’t just a signing opportunity but an opportunity to really and truly meet him as a person.
The night was mainly focused on a meet and greet/signing while enjoying the new album (Conductor We Have A Problem 3). He also played a set that was equally as insightful as it was fun. It was magical to have someone of his caliber break down how he hears something and where it builds from there. I really enjoyed his insight into turning one small sound into a full song, and how he heard the song before it ever became whole. I love to get a glimpse into the mind of an artist, to try and see the music the way that they do.
The night was full of love with signing, talking, and a producer set followed up with a toast for his recent Grammy Nomination. We all shared a bottle of champagne and had a sip in honor of his achievements.
He spoke a lot last night of his team and how grateful he is for his community. His relationship with Westside Gunn seems to be something that we all wish we could cultivate it this industry. Conductor says that he is always safe with him on his team. Which I believe has a lot to do with his legal team, but not to diminish the importance of the bond that is surely shared. Feeling safe in any industry, in any part of our lives is important. Something that we don’t always think of as apart of success, but that resonated with me listening to him speak as what is a defining part of his version of success. Having a family to support and feeling that safety in what you do is an extremely validating, but overlooked, feeling.
I’m feeling grateful for this experience, and happy to cover it as my first story on this page. As a lesson learned from Conductor Williams last evening, if I can grow by just 1% every day then I’ll be 30% greater at the end of every month. So here’s to today’s 1%.. see you again tomorrow.
